1. Extraction 2 (Netflix)

Directed by:  Sam Hargrave

Starring: Chris Hemsworth, Golshifteh Farahani, Adam Bessa

Platform: Netflix

MohidMovie Score: ⭐ 8.7/10

 Review

Chris is back as Tyler Rake in Extraction 2, this time playing the black ops mercenary with a death wish. Hargrave dials everything up in Extraction 2. He gives us longer sequences tracking shots, even more brutal combat, jaw-dropping stunts – the now-legendary 21 minute one take action sequence that sets a new high for action movies.

Tyler's quest for redemption is heart-wrenching, with additional emotional motivations and depth in supporting actors, giving the sequel real weight. If you loved John Wick or The Raid, you cannot miss this.

2. Reacher (Prime Video - Series)

Directed by:  Nick Santora

Starring: Alan Ritchson

Platform:  Amazon Prime Video

MohidMovie Score ⭐ 8.4/10

Review:

This one’s Technically a Series but it’s pure action adrenaline from start to finish, Reacher is based on Lee Child’s bestselling novels and it’s everything that fans hoped for - a no-nonsense hero with brains and brawn. Alan Ritchson nailed the role of Reacher performing the part of a physically imposing man with a tactical ingenious mind.

The tightly choreographed fighting feels as if it’s grounded in reality; there are no superpowers here, only sheer brutality and powerfully efficient and meticulously strategic takedowns. It flows like a crime thriller plot with military precision. Every episode is left on such a high cliff edge that you are desperate to know what happens next.

3. The Covenant (Prime Video)

Directed by:  Guy Ritchie

Starring: Jake Gyllenhaal, Dar Salim

Platform: Amazon Prime Video

MohidMovie Score: ⭐ 8.2/10

Review:

Guy Ritchie puts aside his stylized crime comedies and serves us a war-action drama with The Covenant. Gyllenhaal stars as a US Army sergeant in Afghanistan whose life gets saved by a local interpreter. The drama unfolds when the interpreter gets into trouble and the sergeant risks his life to save him on a harrowing mission behind enemy lines.

The action is intense and realistic, yet The Covenant is distinguished by their emotional depth. Loyalt, honor, sacrifice—and other elements—are interwoven for the audience's reflection.

4. The Mother (Netflix)

Directed by:   Niki Caro

Starring: Jennifer Lopez, Joseph Fiennes

Platform:  Netflix

MohidMovie Score:⭐ 7.9/10

Review:

In “The Mother”, Jennifer Lopez takes on a fierce new role as a former contract killer who comes out of hiding to protect her daughter. To put it simply, envision a blend of Taken and Atomic Blonde, infused with primal maternal instincts.

While ‘The Mother’ may not win any awards for plot originality, Lopez impresses with her stunning physique and the visceral action sequences. It is easy to get lost in the riveting snowy peak chases, the hand-to-hand combat, and the deeply felt core of the film – that of a parent turning to drastic measures in her attempt to rescue her child. Suffice it to say, a watchful eye was not turned to some of the nitty gritty issues that lurked just beneath the surface of the film. It is by no means a flawless effort. But what it does manage to achieve is make family-friendly “entertaining films” slightly less of a precious rarity.

5. Without Remorse ( Amazon Prime Video)

Director: Stefano Sollima

Starring: Michael B. Jordan

Platform: Prime Video

MohidMovie Score: ⭐ 7.8/10

 Review:

‘Without Remorse’ is one of the books by Tom Clancy I enjoyed and in this movie we encounter a Navy Assaulter called John Kelly, who embarks on a disturbingly violent journey of retribution after his spouse gets brutally murdered. In the movie we see Jordan transform into an international operator with a D.C to Russia scope mission. He uncovers conspiracies that are multinational.

I would describe the movie as grand and having layers. It has a collage of spy thriller snippets plus ground combat.Indeed Jordan is physically impressive, but I was especially touched by how the rest of the cast helped him sell his performance.  Without Remorse is a resounding victory for Prime, setting the stage for what has the potential to be a sprawling action franchise.

Final Thoughts: What Should You Watch First?

If adrenaline and cinematic action are what you're in the mood for, then Extraction 2 is hands down the best option. For anyone looking for a more methodical approach, Reacher will provide slow pacing but loads of intelligence and impact. The Covenant is perfect for those who love military drama, providing intensity and heart.

All in all, my conclusion is that every title adds a new dimension to their respective genre, demonstrating that both Netflix and Prime Video are stepping poles of serious action cinema in 2025. For now, enjoy the show, and prepare for a bang.
